I am pleased to have found your site (read about you in a Surf magazine in Santa Cruz). I am novice surfer and teach in Oakland. I would love to get my students interested in surfing. Actually getting them interested is easy..getting them there or feeling confident about their ability is challenging. Any resources you could send my way I would appreciate. You know something is off when my students stated they would be more comfortable with a crazy guy with a gun than in the ocean. Any pics, links or groups who would like to help take urban kids to the ocean would be cool. :)

I can't even begin to explain how happy I am that there is a association of black surfers!out there somewhere...I live in South Florida and i'm looking to start taking surf lessons in Miami or my local beach but we hardly get any good swells but im just anxious to start i would love to but they charge mad money for lessons :-/. I just want to learn with everything in me.

Hi BSA. I want to thank you for the surfing lessons at Dockwiler Beach on June 20, 2010. Although I was not able to get into the water on the board, it was cool hanging out. I look forward to the next meet so I can try again. When and where in July 2010, let me know. Thanks again.

I am super proud of what you guys are doing. I surfed yesterday with a Brother at Bombura's (on Oahu) and mentioned that I read about your club in Surfers Journal this month. It was only the second time I had seen a Brother in the water here in Hawaii. And he was likely the best surfer out! I run a club here on Oahu with about 1700 members (yes - 1700) called Hawaii Military Surfing Organization (www.hmso.org) and we are much like you in that we support our Brothers (military members or former) in the way you guys support yours. Mahalo for what you do! Chaz President of Hawaii Military Surfing Organization

I'm proud to have taught 2 Black people how to surf. I live in Hawaii on the island of Oahu and there is hardly any Black people here. I hope to get many many more people out in the water because being in the water is one of the best feelings on the planet. cphillips278@yahoo.com

My uncle, Larry Richard Reed, was one of the few black surfers in Southern California during the early sixties. He taught me what he knew, though it's been a while since I've ridden the waves. Thank you so much for being there and continue to blaze the trail.

Thank you for all you've done for the sport. I too love to teach and incourage more black surfers to get out in the water. For 10 years I was teaching inner-city kids from San Diego how to surf. I now teach and coach at Farrignton High school in Honolulu. I have had the oppertunity to get 100 plus black kids into the sport. Two of the guys have since got caught up. One of my boys is in prison in Saint Louis till 2013, he tells me the surfer magazines I send him is the only thing keeping him going, one of my boys in now Hiv Positive but they are exceptional watermen. Let me know if BSA is able to write these two guyz and incourage them, it would mean the world. Thanks, much love and blessings
