I'll be doggone! Tony Corley after all these yrs. It was Jan. 1978 I rolled into Farm Boys all-nite greasy-spoon soaking wet from riding my Norton Interstate Commando down Hwy. 101. i was so tired from riding in the rain, my head dropped to the table in my booth from exhaustion. You and Rose put me up for the night and i wound up attending to Cal Poly where you were a student. been awhile since I was in SLO County but God do i miss that good Life and the sweet smelling air - Blessings to you & yours My Friend

I live in North Florida aka Jacksonville where virtually no black surfers are. I would really would love to learn to surf but am discourage by the race barrier, but I'm so proud that at least BSA is doing big in California :) I'm definately proud. Wish we could get one in Florida !

Yeay, Yeay, Yeay!!!! I live in Huntington Beach and my beautiful son loves to surf. However, we have been confronted with a lot of racism and hatred of Blacks here in OC. (Relocated here 2 years ago) I don't want my 18 year old to be discouraged from surfing because he is so good. I AM THRILLED TO LEARN OF YOUR ORGANIZATION! WE ARE JOINING!

I am so very glad that BSA is here-If Hendrix played Rock Guitar, Tiger plays Golf, Debi skated the Ice, and Venus and Serena play Tennis, then doggone it, WE CAN SURF!! Thank you again Mr Corley and as soon as I am able, I will join all of you at BSA....

@Joe, on why a BSA? Take a look at the history when Founder Tony Corley simply inquired about other Black Surfers. He received hate mail. Some of the issue is to help with the perception that "surfing is for everyone." In subtle and direct ways many members have been told "Black folk don't belong in the water." However, BSA does not discriminate by race only explore the idea that more Black people can and should be surfing. In that sense it is proactive in opening surfing to everyone. More so than any other surfing association. Peace & Health to you Joe.

Why would you want to have a black association. Isn't surfing for everyone?

Ready For The Revolution Yeah I was surfing in Monterey,Carmel and Rivermouth with excursions to Pleasure Point Santa Cruz in 1966 & 67 before going on to San Diego for college. A shout out to all of the Pennisula surfers. Build a Black Surfing Association where-ever you are. We Africans were the 1st surfers and we need to regain our legacy. Dedon

Monterey CA black multicultural surfer from 1965 - 1982, Sunshine Surf Shop back then in Pacific Grove. Great to see there are and were others, though on the CA coast even then it didn't matter! Had an Oneill 6'7" single fin then! Awesome to know there are others like me after all these years!
